Role at the Temple

Building a Center
for the World

How visionary leadership transformed a modest plot of land into a global beacon of meditation and spiritual education.

A Vision
Made Manifest

When Luang Por Dhammajayo co-founded Wat Phra Dhammakaya in 1970 on a 196-rai plot of land in Pathum Thani province, few could have imagined the scale of what it would become. Under his leadership as abbot from 1977, the temple grew into one of the largest and most architecturally distinctive Buddhist centers in the world.

His approach to temple management was revolutionary — combining traditional monastic discipline with modern organizational methods. He introduced systematic meditation training programs, educational initiatives, and community outreach that positioned the temple as a center not just for worship, but for comprehensive human development.

From Local Temple
to Global Influence

What began as a small meditation community on donated farmland has grown into one of the most dynamic Buddhist movements in the world. The temple's annual events — including Makha Bucha Day ceremonies, Kathina festivals, and ordination programs — draw hundreds of thousands of participants.

The growth reflects not just organizational skill, but a genuine resonance between Luang Por Dhammajayo's message and the spiritual needs of modern society. His emphasis on making meditation accessible, practical, and relevant has attracted practitioners from every walk of life and every corner of the globe.

A temple is not built of bricks and mortar alone. It is built of the collective faith, practice, and aspiration of every soul who walks through its gates.
